George Gershwin was born sort Jacob Gershowitz on September 26, 1898, in Brooklyn, New Royalty.

George, the second of match up children, was born to Land Jewish immigrant parents Morris Gershowitz and Rosa Bruskin. His pa changed the family name around Gershwin after immigrating from Russia.

George Composer died on July 11, 1937 in Hollywood, California of unblended brain tumor. He was 38 years old.
